Dr. M. R. Riazi is currently a professor and the chair of chemical engineering at Kuwait University. He was previously an assistant professor of chemical engineering at Pennsylvania State University (USA) where he also received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering. He was also a visiting professor of petroleum engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Engineering at Trondheim, Norway, and University of Texas (Austin), an assistant professor of engineering at Wright State University (Dayton, Ohio), a visiting professor of chemical engineering at the University of IllinoisSharif University, as well as McGill University, University of Waterloo  and Graz University of Technology in Austria and other universities in the Middle East.

Dr. Riazi has been consultant to several oil companies worldwide including Petrofina (Brussels, Belgium), Fina Exploration Norway, PETRONAS (Malaysia), American Petroleum Institute (API),  PRI (Calgary, Canada), Arabian Oil Company (Khafji, Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC, Kuwait), Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC, Kuwait) and KNPC. Dr. Riazi has more than 140 technical publications in refereed international journals and conference proceedings mainly in the fields of petroleum and chemical technology and has developed methods for three chapters of the API - Petroleum Refining Data Book, a major reference for design and operation of petroleum refineries and chemical plants (see the publications in the main page). His recent book on "Characterization and Properties of Petroleum Fractions," published by ASTM International is now being used in the petroleum industry and some universities worldwide. In 2016 his book on Coal Production and Processing Technology will be released by Taylor & Francis. He is also completing a new comprehensive book project titled: "Exploration and Production of Petroleum and Natural Gas" to be published in the United States in 2016. In addition he has presented papers in more than 70 international conferences. Dr. Riazi's methods for properties of crude oils and petroleum products have been used by major oil companies and research centers throughout the world in the past three decades and he has presented more than 50 lectures and short courses to the petroleum industry in 40 countries.  He has been invited speaker at chemical engineering departments of University of Illinois (Chicago, US), Texas A&M University (College Station, TX, U.S.), University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada), New South Wales University (Sydney, Australia), Indian Institute of Technology (Kanpur, India), Computer Modeling Group (CMG, Calgary, Canada), Heriot Watt University (Edinburgh, UK), Shell International (Netherlands), British Petroleum (Sunbury, UK), IFP (Paris, France), Technical University of Denmark (Lyngby, Denmark), World Economic Forum (WEF in 2009), DBR (Now part of Schlumberger, Edmonton, Canada), Petronas (Kuala-Lumpur, Malaysia), Norsk Hydro (Oslo, Norway), Neste (Finland), Aalto University (Finland), Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Manchester (UK), China University of Petroleum (Beijing), University of Bern (Switzerland), University of Aberdeen (UK) and many more. In 1995 he was awarded a Diploma of Honor from American Petroleum Association for his services to the petroleum industry. He has also received numerous awards and recognition from America’s Biographer and other American and British Biographical Institutes. He was also recipient of Kuwait University teaching award outstanding researcher award by the former Amir of Kuwait. He is the founding and chief editor of International Journal of Oil, Gas and Coal Technology (IJOGCT) published in London, U.K. by the Inderscience. He is an associate editor of Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering (Elsevier, Netherlands) and a founding member of  Journal of ASTM International (U.S.).  He was elected as Fellow of American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) in March 2013.
